Nature
Experiences
There are some beautiful nature experiences to enjoy in Christchurch and the Canterbury region.

BLACK CAT CRUISES
Enjoy a beautiful cruise around Lyttelton Harbour, the drowned crater of an extinct volcano, noting points of historical interest, geological phenomena, a busy working container port and intriguing wildlife including the endangered Hector’s Dolphins. You can also include a tour to Ripapa Island, originally a Maori Pa before becoming a fort and then prison to a single German POW, Count Felix von Luckner.

BOTANIC GARDENS
For every eight acres of developed and residential land in Christchurch, there is the equivalent of one acre of parkland and gardens. Undoubtedly the finest collection of exotic and indigenous plants found anywhere in New Zealand is in the Botanic Gardens. Majestic tress, sweeping lawns, rock, water and herb gardens, fragrant grottos, rose gardens, tropical plant house, provide a quiet and restful oasis right in the very heart of the city.

ORANA WILDLIFE PARK
Orana Wildlife Park is New Zealand’s largest wildlife park specialising in native and endangered exotic animals. Set on 80 hectares of tranquil park-like grounds, 10 minutes drive from Christchurch Airport, Orana Park is a recreation of the ‘plains of Africa’ with giraffe, lions, tigers, rhino, meerkats, monkeys and exotic birdlife. Restaurant and outdoor barbecues provide an ideal venue for a themed safari-style event.

New Zealands Living Dinosaur - The Tuatara Dolphin Experience
Whale Watching
SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS
Just one hour from Christchurch, take a cruise around beautiful Akaroa Harbour and see dolphins, seals, penguins, southern sea birds, a salmon farm, and spectacular vaulted sea caves. For the ultimate eco tourism experience, swim with the world’s smallest and rarest dolphins, the Hector’s Dolphin.

WHALE WATCHING
Enter the world of one of nature’s most magnificent mammals on the ultimate marine experience. The seas off Kaikoura are home to dusky dolphins, seals, pelagic birds including albatross, sharks and giant sperm whales. Take a boat cruise or scenic flight to view these mighty creatures of the deep as they frolic and feed in the rich waters.

WILLOWBANK WILDLIFE RESERVE AND KO TANE MAORI EXPERIENCE
See New Zealand’s fascinating and varied wildlife including kune kune pigs and rare and endangered species of native and exotic birds and animals. Every guest will see a kiwi in a natural bush setting within New Zealand’s largest nocturnal house. Lunch and dinner is available in the award-winning restaurant.
